List of Banned File Extensions

updated: 1/7/2005

Computer viruses are often spread by files attached to email messages. The recipient can inadvertently activate a virus by opening an infected e-mail attachment, infecting their own computer and other computers across the campus network.

Information Technology is committed to providing a safe computing environment for all its students, faculty and administrators. One component of our safe computing environment is Anti-Virus scanning of all incoming e-mail messages using GFI MailEssentials software. This software scans e-mail attachments, detecting viruses or potential virus threats and either deleting the attachment or quarrantining the message and attachment.

Listed below are the banned file extensions and those file extentions that are quarrantined from delivery.
